Da Vinci Disappointment In Uk
THE DA VINCI CODE big screen adaptation has proved a turn-off for moviegoers in the UK, recording just the 15th best opening weekend of all time. The RON HOWARD-directed thriller took $17.1 million (GBP9.5 million) at box offices in Britain and Ireland on its opening weekend, placing it well down the list of movie earners. It earned less than half the $43 million (GBP23.9 million) HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN took when it opened in 2004 and even lost out to animated hit ICE AGE as the biggest earning movie of 2006. The film - based on DAN BROWN's controversial novel - fared better worldwide, taking a total of $224 million (GBP119 million) giving it the second best global opening of all time, behind STAR WARS: REVENGE OF THE SITH.
