Curtis Slams The Oscars

Film legend TONY CURTIS has launched a scathing attack on the Academy Awards, likening the annual ceremony to "ape s**t". The SPARTACUS actor, who was nominated for an Oscar for his performance in the 1958 movie THE DEFIANT ONES, spoke of his disdain for the Hollywood awards as he picked up a Lifetime Achievement honour at the Empire Awards in London on Monday (13MAR06). Curtis, 80, says, "Everyone takes the Oscars far too seriously - it's ape s**t and so fake."

One assumes that Mr. Curtis's nomination for an Oscar in 1958 did not turn to fruition, and that he did not receive one on that occassion: hence his somewhat lude comments. I assume he did not feel he could make such comments in the United States: so why make them at an award ceremony at which he WAS being honoured? WHY MAKE THEM AT ALL? If he doesn't like the Oscars and award ceremonies, WHY attend the one in London? The man's a hypocryt.R.P.Q.

Hypocryt is making a statement, but don't have the guts to put your own name.Freedom of opinion and speech is for ALL, not just some. How strange that if one does not share the opinion of (probably) most people, or at least the political correct opinion, one is burned down.It seems that freedom of speech and opinion only goes if it it is the political correct one, if that is not the case you are being slaughtered, now THAT is what I call hypocryt.Other point: may be, just may be Tony Curtis know a little more about the whole Oscar game then most of us, and thus has this opinion. That ever cross anybodies mind ?Jacqueline
