Pop superstar Craig David is extraordinarily wealthy - but his father still scrapes a meager living as a carpenter.

Dad GEORGE receives no financial help from 7 DAYS star Craig and rents a tiny $100 (GBP60)-a-week attic bedsit in the singer's hometown of Southampton, South England, while his multi-millionaire son owns a luxury home in London's posh Hampstead.

But George - who used to play bass in eighties group THE EBONY ROCKERS and has endured frequent bouts of unemployment - insists all is well between him and Craig, and he expects no financial gain from his son.

He says, "Craig and I have a good relationship.

"So what if I've been on benefits? It's nothing to be ashamed of. Anyway, I'm earning my living now.

"I have my profession. I don't do interviews."

A neighbour of George's says, "He always says hello and is a real gentleman. We don't see him here very often as he works hard and is coming and going.

"But it's very sad because he doesn't seem to have any family - a surprise as he is such a lovely man."

George and Craig's beloved mum TINA split when the singer was a child, although they have always maintained contact.
