Country Music Stars Mourn Johnny Cash

14 September 2003

The Dixie Chicks and Tim Mcgraw are among the country stars who took time out of their busy schedules this weekend (13-14SEP03) to mourn the passing of legendary singer Johnny Cash.

The Dixie Chicks released a statement on Friday (12SEP03) remembering the I WALK THE LINE star, who died of pneumonia on Thursday (11SEP03).

They said, "It is devastating to lose two great country artists in the same year. Johnny Cash and his wife JUNE CARTER CASH were truly a dynamic force in shaping the music industry. Our thoughts and prayers are with their family."

June Carter Cash died earlier this year (03).

McGraw was also hit hard by the death of his hero: "Bigger than any musical genre was Johnny Cash.

"He was an American music icon that set the standard for how to make music on your own terms. We will miss him."

Meanwhile, Nashville, Tennessee's GRAND OLE OPRY staged a tribute to Cash last night (13SEP03).
