Cooper Tops Funnyman Poll

British comedian TOMMY COOPER has been voted the nation's favourite funnyman of all time - 20 years after his death.

Cooper, who died on stage in 1984, has beaten a number of living comics, including BILLY CONNELLY and LEE EVANS, to be crowned Britain's READER'S DIGEST magazine's top joke-teller.

A Reader's Digest spokesperson says, "Comedy fashions come and go but as far as the British public is concerned you obviously can't beat Tommy Cooper's classic one-liners. For Cooper to still be popular, even among younger voters, is incredible."
