Connery Promotes Scottish Nationalism At European Film Awards
Scottish actor SIR SEAN CONNERY called for Scotland to be granted more autonomy from Britain when he accepted his Lifetime Achievement Award at the European Film Awards last night (03DEC05).
The 75-year-old, who rose from obscurity as a teenager in Edinburgh to become one of Hollywood's biggest stars, told the audience he wished "Scotland was independent and had a voice in Europe".
He added that, until the time Scotland is granted its own political figurehead, Europe is "stuck with me for the moment".
A spokesperson for the Scottish National Party welcomes Connery's support for their cause: "The SNP are very proud to have the support of Sir Sean.
"We congratulate him on this prestigious honour."
