Clinton Launches Tsunami Relief Total Request Live
Former US President BILL CLINTON introduced a special edition of MTV show TOTAL REQUEST LIVE (TRL) on TV yesterday (03JAN05) - to thank young Americans who have donated money to the victims of the south east Asia tsunami.
The politician surprised viewers as he appeared at the top of the show.
Clinton, who teamed up with fellow former President GEORGE BUSH to spearhead an American charity effort to help those recovering from the 26 December (04) tragedy which left 280,000 people dead, explained, "Today, on TRL, we're going to celebrate a few of the young leaders who are active in this cause. I hope their compelling stories will inspire you to stay involved."
He continued, "We all know MTV's about music. Let us remember that music is a universal language. It reminds us of our common humanity and our mutual obligation to help those that are in urgent need."
The TRL audience was made up of teenagers who went out of their way to raise cash for the tsunami relief effort.
Meanwhile, MTV bosses launched a massive four-day Internet Tsunami Response Auction, where fans of the show can bid for signed celebrity items on the network's website.
Highlights of the auction include guitars signed by OZZY OSBOURNE, basketball boots signed by JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE and JAY-Z and a whole studio wall signed by every celebrity guest who has appeared on TRL in the past five months.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly to children's charity UNICEF.04/02/2005 02:36
