Clapton To Host Guitar Fundraiser

Rock legend ERIC CLAPTON has enlisted a host of top guitarists to help him raise funds for his addiction recovery centre in the Caribbean, including BB KING, CARLOS SANTANA and JAMES TAYLOR.

The LAYLA singer, 59, will take to the stage later this week (4-6JUN04) in Texas for the festival, which will be held at the DALLAS FAIR PARK and COTTON BOWL STADIUM.

All monies raised will be channelled into the CROSSROADS CENTRE, a nonprofit drug and alcohol and rehabilitation clinic in Antigua.

PETER JACKSON, Clapton's tour manager since 1978, says, "The event is the biggest undertaking we've ever done.

"It just got bigger and bigger and bigger. It's the celebration of the guitar."

Jackson says Clapton - who began discussing the event two years ago - wanted to move the festival to Dallas for its accessibility and due to his fondness for the Texan city.

Clapton - who himself overcame a drug and alcohol addiction in the 1970s - underwrote the $6.5 million (GBP3.6 million) 36-bed treatment centre in 1997 with promises to welcome anyone in need.
