Chopra Reveals The Truth Behind Beatles/maharishi Split

Writer and thinker Deepak Chopra has exploded the myth that his friend MAHARISHI MAHESH YOGI fell out with THE Beatles over a secret romance by insisting the Indian guru simply grew tired of the Fab Four's drug use.

Neither The Beatles nor the Maharishi have spoken about their bitter falling out, leading many to speculate about the reasons for the bust-up.

Some of those close to both The Beatles and the Maharishi have claimed the guru propositioned a friend of the group - possibly actress MIA FARROW - prompting John Lennon and George Harrison to leave India and cease communications with their former spiritual advisor.

But Chopra now insists the Maharishi simply "lost his temper when he learned they were doing drugs".

Chopra adds, "The rumour was that Maharishi had misbehaved with Mia Farrow, but I met Mia years later at the airport while taking a flight to India, and she asked me to tell Maharishi that she still loved him."

Meanwhile, during his guest editor stint for the Times of India newspaper on Tuesday (14FEB06), Chopra also revealed he helped set up a top secret reconciliatory meeting between the Maharishi and Harrison in 1991.

He recalls, "We got on to a chartered plane... and flew to Vlodrop in the Netherlands, where Maharishi was staying."

Chopra recalls it was an emotional meeting, during which Harrison apologised to the Maharishi for severing ties with him.

The Maharishi brought Harrison to tears, according to Chopra, when he forgave his former student, stating, "I knew the Beatles were angels on earth... I could never be upset with angels."

In another story, Chopra said that in his meeting with Harrison and Maharishi he asked Maharishi why the Beatles left India, saying that Maharishi turned to Harrison and said, Tell him. George said, It's because we were taking drugs. • The actress who claimed Maharishi propositioned her was not Mia Farrow. It was an another actress from Los Angeles who had been hired to make the false claims. This is well known by now. The allegation is that a Beatle associate named Magic Alex thought he was losing his influence on the Beatles and did this to get his previous influence back. • Prudence Farrow is Mia Farrow's sister, not her daughter, as one of the commenters claims. Prudence and her husband went on to become active TM teachers. John wrote the song about her because she was meditating so much and not leaving her room. I think he was just concerned. • Even if they caused Maharishi some trouble, they brought a lot of attention to TM and inspired a lot of people to start the practice and helped make spirituality part of Western culture. As early as 1974, George Harrison wrote in a concert program that he thought that Hare Krishna founder, AC Bhaktivedanta, had the knowledge of Krishna, but that Maharishi had the technique. George, Ringo, and Paul all did benefit concerts for Maharishi's programs in later years. According to someone who was in the room with Maharishi, John called Maharishi shortly before he was killed to apologize and asked Maharishi if there was anything he could do for him. Maharishi said no, to just be happy. Ringo, more than once, said that his mantra was the most valuable thing he had ever gotten. He says something to that effect in his Postcards book.

I suppose Deepak Chopra is entitled to his opinions, However, it is true about the Maharishi's earthly desire for Mia Farrow's daughter. Since that is what inspired John Lennon to write Dear Prudence, on the White Album.Still it is all forgiven so forgive and forget.
