Chicken Trouble In Britain For Malkovich

JOHN MALKOVICH's directorial debut THE DANCER UPSTAIRS faced a ban in Britain until the movie star showed censors how ridiculous they were being with their concerns over a chicken.

The Brits were concerned about one scene, which features a frantic bird with a stick of dynamite strapped to it.

Malkovich says, "They felt the chicken showed signs of distress and they banned the film for a week.

"It was a phoney piece of dynamite we strapped to the chicken's leg but their point was, 'How would the chicken know?' Seriously.

"I had some questions for them like, 'If we cut the chicken out of the movie, how did they know what that would do to the chicken's mental state and how that could effect the chicken's career?"
