Carnivale Tops Creative Arts Awards

Bizarre circus drama CARNIVALE was the big winner at yesterday's (12SEP04) Creative Arts portion of the annual PRIMETIME EMMY AWARDS.

The period drama, starring TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES star NICK STAHL, picked up five trophies, including wins for single-camera series cinematography, hair styling for a series and costumes for a series.

Mini-series ANGELS IN AMERICA picked up four Creative Arts awards, including prizes for art direction and make-up.

KIEFER SUTHERLAND's drama 24 and the final season of sitcom FRASIER also picked up four gongs apiece.

American cable network HBO, which aired Carnivale and Angels In America, took home 16 awards for its shows at the Shrine Auditorium, Los Angeles, prize giving. The network's shows have been nominated a staggering 124 times for overall Emmys this year (04).

Elsewhere, SHARON STONE picked up her first Emmy for her star turn as a God-obsessed lawyer in defunct drama THE PRACTICE.

Other award-winning guest spot prizes were handed out to WILLIAM SHATNER (THE PRACTICE), JOHN TURTURRO (MONK) and LAURA LINNEY (FRASIER).

The main Emmy ceremony will take place next Sunday (19SEP04) at the Shrine Auditorium.
