Carey's Grammy Bash Shut Down
Pop star Mariah Carey's celebrations following her triple Grammy win were brought to a halt in the early hours of Thursday (09FEB06), when the overcrowded nightclub was deemed a fire hazard.
After picking up Best R+B Song, Best Contemporary R+B Album and Best Female R+B Vocal Performance at the star-studded ceremony on Wednesday night (08FEB06), Carey retreated to a $4.5 million (GBP2.5 million) mansion in Beverly Hills, California, for the party of the year.
Despite Kirsten Dunst, Mischa Barton and Playboy boss Hugh Hefner managing to enter the party, A-list stars including Beyonce Knowles were left queuing to get inside the building, before emergency services arrived, deemed there to be too many people and shut the bash down.
A guest says, "It was mayhem, but fire marshals decided it was too busy and closed the party down. People were told to sit in their cars for two hours before being turned away.
"Mariah was devastated. She pleaded with the fire department to let her closest friends and colleagues in, but there was no relenting."
Carey laments, "I'm so disappointed for all the people that waited."
After Carey's party finished at 3.30am, she left to party with Prince.
