Carey Is Queen Of The Vibe Awards

Pop beauty Mariah Carey triumphed at the third annual Vibe awards yesterday (12NOV05), scooping four honours including the coveted artist of the year gong.

The curvy singer also won the album of the year award for her top-selling release The Emancipation Of Mimi, best R+B song for WE BELONG TOGETHER and R+B voice of the year at the high profile urban music ceremony.

She said of her success, "If you pray and you ask, you will receive."

Meanwhile, organisers Vibe magazine were determined to make the night as safe as possible after last year's (04) violent brawl between Dr Dre and JIMMY JAMES JOHNSON - which resulted in Johnson being stabbed.

Publisher KENARD GIBBS says, "We certainly took all the necessary precautions that we felt we needed to take."

G-Unit member Young Buck will stand trial for the stabbing of Johnson, who is currently behind bars for a year after assaulting Dre as he approached the stage to collect an award last year.
