Braxton To Join Broadway.s Aida
R'n'B beauty TONI BRAXTON is poised to return to New York's Broadway theatre district in the title role of SIR ELTON JOHN and SIR TIM RICE's AIDA.
Contrary to reports claiming DESTINY'S CHILD's MICHELLE WILLIAMS would be taking the part, Braxton has signed for a four-month stint at Manhattan's PALACE THEATRE - starting 30 June (03).
In 1998, the UNBREAK MY HEART hitmaker made her Broadway debut in the role of BELLE in DISNEY's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, also at the Palace.
She says, "I am very excited to be coming back to Broadway as Aida. Ever since I was a little girl, I have been a fan of Elton John's music and to be able to sing the wonderful score he wrote with Tim Rice will be a terrific challenge both as a singer and as an actress."
Braxton, who recently left ARISTA to sign a deal with BLACKGROUND RECORDS, also has plans to release a new album in September (03).
