Bounty Killer Cancels Uk Gigs After Gay Protest
LATEST: Jamaican reggae star BOUNTY KILLER has cancelled concerts in Britain, following the launch into a police investigation into whether his lyrics have incited violence against homosexuals.
Gay rights group OUTRAGE! says that Bounty Killer, real name RODNEY PRICE, cancelled his concerts because of the probe. But a spokesman for the London venue where he was due to perform yesterday (07DEC03) insists he cancelled the gigs because he had missed his flight from Jamaica.
OutRage! had urged the LONDON METROPOLITAN POLICE's hate crime unit to investigate lyrics in four songs by Bounty Killer, which they say incite violence against gays, and even murder.
OutRage! spokesman PETER TATCHELL says, "Bounty Killer chickened out and dared not show his face. He knows what he is doing is wrong and he is terrified of facing a gay rights protest. His macho bravado is in ruins."
The promoter for the event, who did not want to be named, confirms that Saturday's (06DEC03) London gig had been cancelled but says he cannot give details for legal reasons.08/12/2003 09:12
