Birthday Boy Elvis Scores Number One
Late rock 'n' roll legend ELVIS PRESLEY got a posthumous birthday treat today (09JAN05) - a number one single.
The King clocked his 19th number one hit in the British charts with the re-release of JAILHOUSE ROCK, only a day after (08JAN05) what would have been his 70th birthday.
Presley's prison track originally hit the top spot 47 years ago in January 1958.
Reality TV show THE X FACTOR winner STEVE BROOKSTEIN's cover of AGAINST ALL ODDS dropped from one to two.
Besides Presley, the chart was full of music veterans, including metal gods IRON MAIDEN's re-issue of their 1982 single NUMBER OF THE BEAST, which entered at four, and 80s pop duo ERASURE's track BREATHE at four.
New York band THE SCISSOR SISTERS are starting 2005 on a high with FILTHY/GORGEOUS - the fifth single from their hit eponymous album - landing at five, and their album hitting the top spot for the second time. The first being back in April (04).09/01/2005 22:01
