Bextor's Moulin Rouge! Misery

British singing sensation Sophie Ellis Bextor was one of the hopefuls up for Nicole Kidman's role in Moulin Rouge! - but producers didn't even bother to tell her she had failed to win the part.

The MURDER ON THE DANCEFLOOR beauty auditioned for Australian director Baz LUHRMANN as he searched for a star to play tragic heroine SATINE in the romantic musical but never saw him again.

And Bextor was astonished when the film was released because she had heard nothing in the intervening time.

She says, "I spoke to Baz and he also met with Natalie Imbruglia and Lauryn Hill. I never heard anything then the film came out.

"But I actually didn't like the movie much. I don't mean to be negative. Maybe, if I had been in it I would have found a way to like it but it's not my thing really.

"I don't want to do any acting now."
