Beckham Nanny Can Repeat Revelations, Judge Rules
LATEST: A judge has ruled that VICTORIA and DAVID BECKHAM's former nanny ABBIE GIBSON should not be barred from repeating the revelations she made about the British celebrity couple's marriage in a newspaper last weekend (24APR05).
Mr JUSTICE EADY today (29APR05) told London's High Court there is little point in stopping Gibson from repeating her claims - that the Beckhams' six-year marriage was in trouble, which she made in the UK's NEWS OF THE WORLD.
He said, "Unfortunately, publication of the material has taken place on such a wide scale that it would be futile to try and prevent publication of these matters."
The Beckhams had initially sought an injunction to ban the revelations from being published, but failed.
HUGH TOMLINSON, the Beckhams' lawyer, told the court Gibson had signed a confidentiality agreement four times during her employment with the couple, between May 2003 and March 2005.
He said, "That is what this claimant signed and that is what she is bound to.
"It is uniquely hurtful and distressing to have the person who until the end of March this year was sitting around the breakfast table with them and their children, discussing their daily lives, repeat that information."
Earlier today, Gibson said she was prepared to give a legal undertaking not to make any more allegations about the Beckhams and would "hold" the $237,500 (GBP125,000) payment she received from the News Of The World.
The Beckhams and Gibson were not present in court. The couple are at their Madrid, Spain, home with their three children, BROOKLYN, ROMEO and CRUZ, while Gibson is also in the Mediterranean country.29/04/2005 20:03
