Beatty Urges Arnie To Help The Nurses
WARREN BEATTY is urging California Governor ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER to serve the state's nurses in new tax cuts by turning on his rich pals to help fund medical initiatives.
The politically-active movie star dismissed claims he would be running against Schwarzenegger in the next California elections when he attended a Foundation for Taxpayer and Consumer Rights gala dinner on Friday (11MAR05).
But he did have some harsh words for Arnie, which drew cheers from embattled nurses union officials.
Beatty said, "Arnold, be the action hero I know you can be. Be strong. Stand up and confront the wealthiest one per cent of Californians who have benefited $12 billion a year from the (GEORGE) BUSH tax cuts.
"It's called the haves giving a little more to the have-nots. Nobody likes taxes, but everybody likes a peaceful, compassionate, law-abiding, productive, protective society."
But Schwarzenegger's spokesperson VINCE SOLLITTO says, "Tax and spend rhetoric aside, California needs budget reform but it's not a revenue problem, it's a spending problem."
Meanwhile, Schwarzenegger was booed by protestors who gathered outside a TV news show yesterday (14MAR05) for his stance on medical cuts.15/03/2005 03:13
