Beatles Reunion Was In Progress, Says Producer

THE BEATLES were planning their reunion when JOHN LENNON was murdered, according to the record producer working with the late rocker on the night he was shot.

JACK DOUGLAS, who produced Lennon's final album DOUBLE FANTASY, has revealed that Lennon and PAUL McCARTNEY were talking about working together on a RINGO STARR solo album.

Douglas says, "He and Paul planned to play on a Ringo album and that's how they were planning to do it, and GEORGE (HARRISON) had not come aboard yet.

"George was already in a lot of hot water with John because of George releasing his autobiography and not really mentioning much of John in it. But I think they assumed that George would come along as soon as the thing got going."

And Douglas also claims Lennon's wife YOKO ONO actively blocked a Beatles reunion.

He adds, "Let's just put it this way - Yoko discouraged Paul coming around.

"There was a writing session somewhere in the Dakota (building where Lennon and Ono lived) and there was one cancelled which John did not know about. He was told that Paul did not show. Paul was told that John was too busy to be working with him that day."

Lennon was assassinated by MARK DAVID CHAPMAN 25 years ago today (08DEC80) at the age of 40. The Beatles split in 1970.

I don't believe this. There is no way Paul would have gone 25 years without mentioning this was happening when John was murdered. Paul has talked about that they were mending their relationship by talking about their kids. The last time John and Paul saw each other was on March 24, 1976 at the Dakota when they saw the "SNL" offer of $3000 for the Beatles to reunite. This day was dramitized in the VH1 Movie "Two of US". However, in real life, Yoko and Linda were there the entire time. The part about John working on the Ringo solo album is true. John gave Ringo some songs to use for that album. They were supposed to go into the studio in January. Ringo has never used those songs. Ringo was the last of the Beatles to see John alive. It was in November of 1980, I believe.

i never imagined John and Paul working together again/ But, the story seems genuine because the Ono interfearence bit is just like her. That's one thing i must say for Linda. She was gifted and devoted to her family, she'd have wellcomed paul and John collaborating. But Yoko was and is threatened by Paul. God forbid John work with Paul and make it perfectly clear to john that he would succeed with Paul. When Yoko brought John down. She ruined his work when she interfered. Paul must have been crushed by what he thought was John blowing him off, and John would have thought Paul self centered for not coming by to talk about their plans. Too Bad! Paul might have been more open to the idea that it was Yoko not John ignoring him. It must have taken every bit of paul's self restraint not to storm in and accuse Ono about it! Poor Linda, she prtobably took the brunt of Paul's disapointment. Paul was very lucky to have Linda!
