Bass Rock Supergroup Seeks Unknown Singer
A new rock supergroup starring the bassists of NEW ORDER, PRIMAL SCREAM and THE SMITHS is searching for an unknown singer.
FREEBASS features New Order's PETER HOOK, former STONE ROSES star MANI, and The Smiths' ANDY ROURKE - all veterans of the music scene in Manchester, England.
But Freebass wants their frontman to be a newcomer.
Hook says, "We want someone young with something to say. Someone new.
"I think the problem is that the three of us have such a pedigree of vocalist, that if we come out with someone that's not good we'll obviously be slated.
"You've got IAN BROWN, bloody BOBBY GILLESPIE, IAN CURTIS, BERNARD SUMNER and MORRISSEY. Those are big shoes to fill, especially collectively."
Hook also confirms the three rockers will continue to play their bass guitars in Freebass.
He adds, "Mani does the low part, Andy Rourke in the middle and I do the high bit. But it works out quite well.
"(It sounds) like New Order with a bit of the Stone Roses and a bit of Smiths and some Northern Soul."
