Bands Rally For War Child Cause

RADIOHEAD, RAZORLIGHT and THE CORAL are among a galaxy of stars planning to record the fastest album ever made in an effort to raise money for War Child - a charity which aids children whose lives have been devastated by war.

More than 20 acts will line up to beat the world record War Child set nearly 10 years ago on 4 September 1995 with the album HELP - by simultaneously recording a brand new song each in studios across Europe and making it available for download later the same day.

The original line up, including ORBITAL, STONE ROSES, MASSIVE ATTACK and SUEDE, raised $3.6 million (GBP2 million) alongside music maverick BRIAN ENO as the executive producer.

And War Child insists their cause is more desperate than ever - with children in Iraq, Afghanistan, Bosnia and the Democratic Republic of Congo suffering daily.

The charity's chief executive officer, MARK WADDINGTON says, "As a music fan, I know what the original HELP album meant and as the present CEO of War Child I know what it achieved.

"It was my intention that any new album should match up to the feats of the past. That's why we have set ourselves the challenge of remaking history and releasing the fastest album ever - again.

"It's a tall order but we feel with the support of artists like Radiohead and HARD-FI we can make it happen."

The new album will be titled HELP: A DAY IN THE LIFE and other acts expected to take part include the ZUTONS, BLOC PARTY, ELBOW and MANIC STREET PREACHERS.
