Athlete And Snow Patrol Battle To Become U2

ATHLETE are locked in a battle with fellow British band SNOW PATROL to see who can become the next U2 first.

Athlete frontman JOEL POTTS and Snow Patrol guitarist NATHAN CONNELLY decided to instigate their race to become superstars while watching U2 play in the Netherlands recently.

Potts says, "We were in Germany when we first got asked to support U2 and we just laughed. It was kind of one of those dreams. It was the same with REM.

"We supported U2 in Amsterdam and I was standing with Nathan from Snow Patrol.

"U2 were incredible and everyone was just standing singing at the top of their voices. I was going, 'I want this', and so was Nathan. We ended up going, 'I'll race you.'

"We'd love to nick (steal) their crowd."

The Beatles might have been the greatest rock band way back when, but how long did they stay together? They couldn't work as a team, and let their personalities get in the way of great music, although I don't think a lot of the Beatles music made a lot of sense, they, just like Elvis changed the image of rocknroll, but U2 made rock relevant. The songs that mostly Bono wrote at the beginning of their careers are still very relevant today. And they are friends, who put aside their pettyness, and act like a team. And 1 question, why do they want to be u2? Don't they want to be recgonized on their own merit? I don't get these things with band wanting to be the next U2. How about being yourselves? Because they're not good enough!

Sorry guys, but no one will ever be the next U2. They are and will remain-for as long as they are playing- the best rock band in the world. and it's not just their music, it's their caring about things outside of themselves. Their humanatarian efforts especially Bonos' is unsurpassed by anyone new in the rock business. So to even be close to U2, fame and fortune can't be what it's all about. Caring about you're fellow man is just as important. So when you can look at yourselves in the mirror, and relize that you need to look outside yourselve, well maybe you could come a liitle closer to being the next U2, but as far as I'm concernerd, U2 stands alone as the greatest Rock band of all time, and the most humble and wonderful men too. God Bless, Robyn

how can you say U2 are the best rock band ever, you have got to be joking! They stole their whole image off of other bands and come out looking like complete idiots to evry1 else apart from their "devoted" fans.Snow Patrol and Athlete are what British Rock is about, and if they were even half as rich and well known as U2 are theyd do a hell of alot more for poverty than putting their face on the front of covers and speeking in a deep voice. U2 are no way the biggest and im shocked that people even think that!plus Beatles are the biggest Rock Band there has ever been so there!:D Muzz

U2 are the first rockband to NOT trash hotel rooms, NOT screw the groupies, they brought God into rock music, made caring for the poor, etc. respectiable for rock musicians.. They are the first of their kind and anybody who follows their example is just showing excellent judgment.
