Animal Rights Activists Protest Banzai Show
01 July 2003Banzai, a parody of Japanese stunt shows due to hit American screens next month (JUL03), has already sparked outrage among animal rights activists.
Protesters are infuriated that a man in San Francisco, California, attempted to copy a stunt seen in a promotional clip for the show, testing how many helium balloons it takes to make a chicken fly.
The chicken in question, dubbed AMELIA by the city, became entangled in power lines but was rescued. The incident prompted electric utility company PG+E to hold a news conference on Friday (27JUN03), warning against the dangers of entangling poultry.
The show premieres on American TV network Fox on 13 July (03).
