9/11 Movie To Have New York Premiere

A movie charting the last moments of the ill-fated 9/11 flight that crashed in Pennsylvania has been awarded a fitting premiere at the New York film festival established in the wake of the terrorist atrocity. UNITED 93, which dramatises the infamous hijacking, will be screened at the Tribeca Film Festival next month (25APR06). The move has been endorsed by some relatives of the crash victims, who have promised to attend the premiere. GORDON FELT, who lost his brother, says, "It is never easy to relive the events of 9/11, yet I support United 93 as a tribute to the heroism of my brother and the 39 other passengers and crew who collectively chose to say 'no' on that fateful day." The two week-long festival was set up by Hollywood star Robert De Niro in 2002 to give something back to the city rocked by the World Trade Center attacks a year earlier (01). Two planes crashed into the World Trade Center and the third into the Pentagon on that day. Passengers on a fourth plane sent desperate messages to loved ones saying the flight had been hijacked and they were making attempts to overcome their attackers.

When I first found out there was going to be a movie about 9/11 I was hurt, enraged, horrified, and stunned. Kind of like the 911 morning and I saw the planes crash into the Twin Towers and then the Pentagon on TV, but not as gut wrenching.I wanted to start a boy cott of the film. I wanted to yell at someone. I could not imagine what the families were going through. Then I found out that it was about the plane that went down in PEN, and that at least some of the families were OK with it .I won't be going to see the movie, however, I don't need a movie to show me what courage and heroism, and selflessness these men and women had. To me it is very close to sacred and much too painful. The attacks were so senseless and horrifing, however, the worst horror of all is that this should not have happened. No way it should have happened and it still hurts me so much that it did happen and could have been , should have been prevented.
