FUGEES star WYCLEF JEAN was mobbed in Port-Au-Prince, Haiti, on Tuesday (11JAN05) when he returned to his homeland to launch a new education initiative.
The GONE 'TIL NOVEMBER singer performed Haiti tribute anthem GONAIVES on the back of a lorry parked on a soccer field before taking to riding around on a bicycle.
Jean was back in Haiti to visit an after-school programme in slum Cite Soleil that provides sports training for local kids.
The hip-hop star has become a huge hero in Haiti after spending a personal fortune to help improve education there, through his new YELE HAITI charity foundation.
The charity programme is aimed at providing scholarships for 4,000 children in the northern city of Gonaives, where floods killed more than 2,000 people in September (04), and repair 20 damaged schools.
