OSCAR winner DENZEL WASHINGTON has denied reports he insisted a love scene be cut from his new film MAN ON FIRE, because he was concerned about the interracial relationship.

Despite reports Washington was worried about the reaction from his female black fans to his sex scenes with PHONE BOOTH star RADHA MITCHELL, the actor's representative insists his client would not have asked for the cuts.

However, JULIA ROBERTS claimed Washington asked for their love scenes to be cut from 1993's PELICAN BRIEF, and the star was also said to have asked for similar scenes with MIMI ROGERS to be edited out from 1989's THE MIGHTY QUINN after black women howled their disapproval during test screenings.

A representative for MAN ON FIRE makers FOX 2000 PICTURES told THE SCOOP website, "I don't think there was any agenda. And if there was, I probably wouldn't tell you."
