WAR CHILD - WAR CHILD ALBUM BREAKS DOWNLOAD RECORD

NEWS BY ARTIST ALPHABETICALLY

The WAR CHILD charity record has become the fastest-selling download album in British history, with 4,000 fans dowloading all 22 tracks in the two-and-a-half days since it became available online.

A host of UK bands including COLDPLAY, RADIOHEAD and GORILLAZ recorded songs last week (ends11SEP05) and fans have already spent $72,000 (GBP40,000) on downloads - the CD version goes on sale later this month (26SEP05).

HELP: A DAY IN THE LIFE became available first on the War Child homepage, and was then released by all major online music retailers yesterday (13SEP05).

BEN DRURY, managing editor of War Child's retail partner 7 Digital, is delighted complete album has been downloaded in such numbers.

He says, "We receive data from the Official UK Charts Company every week and no download bundle or album has sold anywhere near the amount that Help did in a single week let alone over just two days."

Ten years ago the original HELP album raised more than $2.25 million (GBP1.25 million) for the War Child Charity.
