UNDERWORLD - UNDERWORLD TOPS AMERICAN BOX OFFICE

Sci-fi fantasy film UNDERWORLD has shot to the top of the American box office in its opening weekend, taking $22 million (GBP13.4 million).

The KATE BECKINSALE-starring movie, which features a war between vampires and werewolves, beat THE FIGHTING TEMPTATIONS, starring R+B star BEYONCE KNOWLES, into second place.

The gospel movie, which also co-stars OSCAR-winner CUBA GOODING JR, took $13.2 million (GBP8 million).

WOODY ALLEN's latest offering, ANYTHING ELSE took only $1.7 million (GBP1 million), and SHARON STONE's comeback film COLD CREEK MANOR debuted in fifth place with $8.3 million (GBP5.3 million).
