EMMA THOMPSON - THOMPSON HATED HER DOWDY FEMINIST LOOK

EMMA THOMPSON regrets taking feminism to the extreme when she was younger - because she always dressed terribly.

The British actress has been wowing Hollywood with her sexy new look as she promotes new movie NANNY McPHEE in America and she only wishes she hadn't waited until her 40s to show off her inner style.

The Oscar winner insists her new look is a result of not taking herself or her politics so seriously.

She explains, "I think that when I was growing up, I was quite a militant feminist, really - shaven head and big baggy clothes and very angry about things.

"I felt like, if you did dress up, you were somehow pandering to male tastes. There was an awful lot of that in the women's movement in the 1970s. But now I'm 46 and I just don't care anymore."
