Urban star MIKE SKINNER has beaten FRANZ FERDINAND and U2 to win the accolade of Best British Album of 2004.
THE STREETS' second album A GRAND DON'T COME FOR FREE topped the poll in British magazine Q for its ability to capture the "mood" in Britain this year (04).
Second place went to English group KEANE with their debut HOPES AND FEARS, while Scottish band Franz Ferdinand's eponymous album rounded off the top three.
Q Magazine says of The Streets' album, "It captured the country's mood in a way no one could have predicted.
"It went from cult classic to bestseller in no time."
The top ten albums of 2004 is as follows:
