THE LIBERTINES - THE LIBERTINES WILL NEVER TOUR AGAIN

British rockers THE LIBERTINES shocked fans in France on Saturday night (18DEC04) by announcing they will never tour again - moments after PJ HARVEY revealed she is also quitting the music industry.

The CAN'T STAND ME NOW band lost their previous frontman PETE DOHERTY earlier this year (04) due to drug problems, and shocked a 350-strong crowd of competition winners at Studio 287 in Paris by revealing they had just played their final performance.

The troubled group's singer CARL BARAT is now working on his new supergroup, THE CHAVS, which features PRIMAL SCREAM keyboardist MARTIN DUFFY, THE CHARLATANS singer TIM BURGESS and RAZORLIGHT drummer ANDY BURROWS.

The audience was doubly shocked since the news came after Harvey took to the stage and announced "this will be the last show I ever play".
