SEAN PENN - THE INTERPRETER STAYS TOP IN UK

SEAN PENN and NICOLE KIDMAN's latest movie THE INTERPRETER has remained at the top of the UK box office chart for a second successive week.

The political thriller edged out competition from new entries THE AMITYVILLE HORROR and romantic comedy THE WEDDING DATE, after taking $2.3 million (GBP1.2 million) over last weekend (22-24APR05).

The Amityville Horror, which stars RYAN REYNOLDS and MELISSA GEORGE, took $1.68 million (GBP886,000). Highest new entry The Wedding Date - which stars DEBRA MESSING - came a close third with $1.5 million (GBP809,000).
