SPIDER MAN - SPIDER-MAN 2 IS A CONFIRMED RECORD BREAKER

LATEST: The SPIDER-MAN sequel has spun up $180 million (GBP100 million) at the American box office to become the biggest opener in film history.

Estimates yesterday (05JUL04) suggested the film was well on course to smash the top four-day, five-day and six-day opening records previously held by THE MATRIX RELOADED, SHREK 2 and MISSION: IMPOSSIBLE 2 respectively - and now there's no doubt.

The sequel was responsible for over half of all cinema business over America's Independence Day weekend (03-05JUL04).
