SIDEWAYS - SIX SPIRITS FOR SIDEWAYS

Wine-drinking comedy SIDEWAYS was the toast of the 20th annual INDEPENDENT SPIRIT AWARDS in California yesterday (25FEB05), claiming six of the ceremony's prizes.

The film's stars THOMAS HADEN CHURCH, VIRGINIA MADSEN and PAUL GIAMATTI were all winners, as was director ALEXANDER PAYNE and the film itself.

Double winners at the ceremony were the indie movies MEAN CREEK, THE MOTORCYCLE DIARIES and MARIA FULL OF GRACE.
