RADHA MITCHELL - SILENT HILL SCREAMS UP A HIT AT US BOX OFFICE

Horror film SILENT HILL has screamed to the top of the US box office with an opening weekend take of $20.2 million (GBP11.5 million). The unsettling thriller, which stars RADHA MITCHELL as a mother searching for her lost daughter in a sinister town, knocks SCARY MOVIE 4 off the top of the new list. The horror spoof comes in at number two with $17 million (GBP9.7 million), taking its 10-day tally to an impressive $67.7 million (GBP38.7 million). KIEFER SUTHERLAND and EVA LONGORIA's espionage thriller THE SENTINEL also enjoys a strong opening with a $14.65 million (GBP8.4 million) debut weekend, to enter the chart in third place. AMERICAN IDOL spoof AMERICAN DREAMZ, starring HUGH GRANT and MANDY MOORE, fared less well - the comedy debuted in eighth place with a disappointing $3.7 million (GBP2.1 million) opening weekend take.
