Comedienne ELLEN DeGENERES got an unexpected greeting from MARTIN SHORT on her chat show this morning (06OCT04), when the actor mauled her, knocking her to the floor.

When the THREE AMIGOS star was introduced by DeGeneres, he strode out onto the stage and embraced her - but didn't let go.

As DeGeneres held on in astonishment, Short proceeded to lean into her until she fell onto a chair. He continued to press against her and kiss her until the chair toppled, sending them both to the ground, where they continued to role.

Once the pair finally composed themselves, Short declared to the cheering audience, "I love this woman!"
