SHELLEY WINTERS - SHELLEY WINTERS DIES

Hollywood screen star SHELLEY WINTERS has died after suffering a heart attack. She was 85.

Winters, who won Academy Awards for her roles in THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK and A PATCH OF BLUE, passed away in hospital in Beverly Hills last night (14JAN06) - three months after she was first hospitalised after suffering a heart attack.

Born SHIRLEY SCHRIFT, the curvy starlet from Illinois, moved to Hollywood after a stint on Broadway, and famously shared a flat with movie goddess MARILYN MONROE.

Winters married and divorced three times, and is survived by one daughter, VITTORIA, by second husband VITTORIO GASSMAN.
