SHAKIRA - SHAKIRA WINS BIG AT BILLBOARD LATIN AWARDS

Colombian pop sensation SHAKIRA swept the boards at the Billboard Latin Music Awards last night (27APR06), winning six prizes. Her album FIJACION ORAL VOL 1 (ORAL FIXATION VOL 1) won Female Latin Pop Album Of The Year and the single LA TORTURE (THE TORTURE) won four awards including Hot Latin Song Of The Year. After picking up the album award, Shakira told the crowd in Hollywood, Florida, "Wow. Thank you. This is for all of you, my fans, who have been accompanying me, understanding and protecting me all these years." She was also honoured with the Spirit Of Hope Award, to acknowledge her charity work for Colombian children through the Fundacion Piez Descalzos (Bare Feet Foundation) she set up. She was presented the award by four children from the foundation. Other multiple winners included reggaeton star DADDY YANKEE, rapper JUANES, Dominican bachata singer ANDY ANDY, and Mexican pop group RBD, who all won three each.
