SHAKIRA - SHAKIRA THE BIG WINNER AT ALMA AWARDS

Colombian singer SHAKIRA saw her successful music career recognised on Sunday (07MAY06) when she scooped two prizes at this year's (06) ALMA Awards. The WHENEVER, WHEREVER hitmaker was named Outstanding Musical Performer alongside reggaeton artist DADDY YANKEE, and also picked up a gong for Best Spanish Album. The ceremony, which honours artistic achievement by Hispanics in music, television and film, saw MARC ANTHONY and actor ANDY GARCIA awarded with special tributes. Anthony received the Celia Cruz Award for Excellence in Music while Garcia took home the Anthony Quinn Award for Excellence in Motion Pictures for a career spanning 25 years. Other actors lauded at the Los Angeles event include LOST beauty MICHELLE RODRIGUEZ and THE WEST WING star JIMMY SMITS. The ALMAs, which stands for American Latino Media Arts, will air 5 June (06) on US network ABC.
