Devoted husband DAVID BECKHAM stunned wife VICTORIA by treating her to a romantic $1000-a-head (GBP625) meal at the plush HOTEL RITZ in Madrid, Spain on Sunday (28SEP03).

The REAL MADRID player - who has been furiously denying reports his four year marriage is in trouble - spared no expense to ensure the singer had a night to remember.

When the I OWE YOU beauty, who has divided her time between New York, London and Madrid, arrived at the hotel she was led into a private dining area which was strewn with orchids and lit by candles.

Spanish chef JAVIER ALDEA then cooked a delicious meal for the loved-up twosome.

A waiter also poured scorn on reports of a bust up, insisting the pair "were like young honeymooners - so in love".

He added, "Victoria was open-mouthed after realising the trouble he had gone to. She kissed and hugged him and they didn't let go of each other's hands all night."

An aide added, "It's not been easy for the couple being apart so much. But after so many lies have been written by rumour mongers desperate to split them up, Sunday was their chance to spend some quality time together."
