The cream of British rock including BILL WYMAN and ROGER DALTREY turned out to pay tribute to late singer LONNIE DONEGAN on Monday night (21JUN04).
VAN MORRISON, MARK KNOPFLER, JOOLS HOLLAND, JOE COCKER and BILLY BRAGG sang to thousands of fans at the memorial concert at London's ROYAL ALBERT HALL.
"King Of Skiffle" Donegan, who helped transform British pop music before THE BEATLES, died in 2002, aged 71.
Former ROLLING STONE Wyman said after Donegan's death, "He was the inspiration to all the bands of the 60s, and we owe it to him."
All the proceeds of the gig went to the BRITISH HEART FOUNDATION charity.
