Tim Robbins - Robbins Takes On New Rocker Role

OSCAR-winning actor TIM ROBBINS has started a new venture with his older brother DAVID - a punk rock band.

The MYSTIC RIVER star, who took home a best supporting actor ACADEMY AWARD at Sunday night's (29FEB04) glitzy ceremony, is enjoying his newfound pastime of music-making - which features a high-speed twist.

He says, "It's my extreme sport. I've been wanting to do it for a while and I have all these songs from BOB ROBERTS, and my brother and I decided that we were gonna play them.

"We wanted to play 'em really fast and loud and so we started a punk rock band called GOB ROBBERS. For me it's like if you're gonna play sports, play a real hardcore sport. I wanted to play like a full contact sport on doing music so what we do is we go pretty hard and it makes you kinda feel your age!

"We did a gig in Park City, Utah, doing a thing up at the SUNDANCE FILM FESTIVAL. It's a mile up in the air there and you have a lot less air. I realised somewhere in the very first song, which was very fast, that my main ambition was to not pass out! So I think that the whole danger element of maybe you might die while you're performing kind of adds a certain element of risk to it that is exciting."
