RADIOHEAD - RADIOHEAD SURPRISE WINNERS AT Q AWARDS

Rockers RADIOHEAD have scooped the major prize from under COLDPLAY's feet at this year's Q AWARDS.
The THERE THERE musicians won best act in the world, leaving CHRIS MARTIN's band empty handed, despite being nominated for four awards.
THE SCIENTIST group also stayed away from this evening's (02OCT03) ceremony, voted for by readers of British magazine Q.
American artists did very well, with CHRISTINA AGUILERA picking up the best single award for DIRRTY, rockers ELECTRIC SIX winning best video for GAY BAR and JANE'S ADDICTION winning the icon award.
BLUR won best album for THINK TANK, while up-and-coming group THE THRILLS picked up the best new act award.
ROBBIE WILLIAMS won the best live act gong - thanks to his triumphant three-day residency at KNEBWORTH - and MUSE won the award for innovation.
Veteran bands noted included DEXY'S MIDNIGHT RUNNERS for the songwriting award, resurrected 1980's pop group DURAN DURAN who won the lifetime achievement award and Goth pioneers THE CURE for the inspiration award.

Icon Award - JANE'S ADDICTION
Lifetime Achievement Award - DURAN DURAN
Innovation Award - MUSE.
