BATTLEFIELD EARTH - PEPPER GIVES UP ON VEAL

BATTLEFIELD EARTH star BARRY PEPPER has given up eating veal after learning how calves are bred for the meaty delicacy.

The actor was horrified when he learned the truth and has vowed never to sample another mouthful.

He says, "I've only ever had veal once and I didn't know until somebody told me after I had veal that evening.

"They actually raise them in the dark and they're in a body harness so they can't move. The mother cow will come in just for feeding time, so they're totally immobile and pitch black."
