Oscar-winner SEAN PENN was a silent loner when he was a child. The DEAD MAN WALKING actor remembers sharing numerous conversations with himself, but he struggled to open up verbally to his peers. He says, "I don't think that I really spoke outside my home till I was five. "I remember plenty of conversations, but they were all with myself. If I ever felt loneliness, it was in a group. "When I realised that people could not see into me - that bothered me, I wanted to be transparent, so as to be understood. Despite now being a massive movie star, Penn felt no need to show off at a young age, he just wanted people to know he was a good person. "I knew that my intentions were good. It seem to me I could give a lot more and be more productive with people who could see who I was. "I didn't want to have to be funny. I didn't want to have to be flawless. I wanted to be able to know my heart was in the right place and not do a big song and dance to display it."
