Should former hellraiser SEAN PENN ever be sent back to prison he'll send a library of books on ahead - so he doesn't waste a minute inside.

The movie mogul felt sure he'd be able to wisely pass the time he spent incarcerated in the early 1990s - for two fighting incidents and shooting at a helicopter - by reading, but he had no idea how quickly you can read a book in jail.

Within no time at all, he'd read everything he had.

Speaking to OPRAH WINFREY for her namesake magazine, Penn recalls, "I was able to send my reading material ahead of time. They have to go through every page to make sure you're not hiding contraband.

"When I got there, I found out what concentrated time will do. After two days, I'd read everything, including the complete essays of MONTAIGNE. A lot of guys in prison are incredibly well read."
