OSCAR-winning actress GWYNETH PALTROW believes her seemingly "perfect" life has prompted hordes of people to excitedly wait for her downfall.

The SHAKESPEARE IN LOVE star, who wed COLDPLAY frontman CHRIS MARTIN last month (DEC03) just days after announcing her pregnancy, detests the way her life and career have always been under close scrutiny and now fears her current happiness threatens to spark a vicious backlash.

She says, "I had taken a year off and done a play, and they started to say, 'Well, where is she, and what's she doing? All these other girls are moving up and she's going to lose her place in line.'

"Everybody can't wait for me to fail because I am supposed to have this perfect life, which is complete nonsense. And then you feel like the tides are turning, and it's pick-on-Gwyneth time.

"I'm just a girl, so that can really get to me. I don't care if I'm not number one or number five or number 10. I'm really f***ing good at my job, and people who are interesting and good know that, and that's all that matters."
