JACK NICHOLSON has condemned the state of contemporary movie-making, insisting films produced by Hollywood today don't compare to the classics it churned out in the sixties and seventies.
The SOMETHING'S GOTTA GIVE star, 67, is delighted he had already established himself as a big screen favourite in the sixties, because it meant he was part of the two greatest decades in cinema, when quality films were being released on a weekly basis.
And Nicholson slams present day movie bosses for their cowardly attitude towards making movies, accusing them of only committing to box office certainties and ignoring "interesting" pictures.
He says, "Y'know I think I had the very best of this industry. The sixties and seventies.
"Back then, you used to think that you could see one truly great film every week of the year.
"And you could, y'know? Something that was a classic.
"Now, well, there's not the distribution that there once was, studios only bank on certainties and a lot of the smaller, but really interesting films go unseen.
"And that's a great pity, a great shame.
"Word of mouth is good, but you often only hear about what is playing when it's too late, and you have to catch up on video or DVD."
