British music fans who buy American rapper FABOLOUS' new single BABY will be able to upload any part of the song as their mobile ringtone, thanks to revolutionary new software.

Record company WARNER MUSIC claim their innovation is a first for the music industry - until now singles came with pre-determined segments of the song available for use as a ringtone.

CRISPIN FUTRILLE, whose company helped design the new technology, says, "It's the next step for music lovers. Ultimately the idea is to get this included on all CDs."

Industry analysts estimate the global ringtone market is worth $3 billion (GBP1.6 billion) - and record company bosses are desperate to combat illegal downloading.
